A CONVOY OF TRUCKERS ENJOY A NIGHT DEDICATED TO THEM AT KCRP
Saturday, April 27th thousands of truckers and those in the trucking industry filled the stands at Kern County Raceway as Golden State Peterbilt presented “A Salute to the American Trucker” Sponsored by Ten-West Towing, Cox Petroleum Transport, and Utility Trailer Sales of Central California.
Truckers, Race Fans, and their families were treated to a great evening of fun and racing. The day started with live music from the Filthy Truckers and the on track autograph session. Fans were surprised to not only meet the racers and get an up-close look at their cars, but also 20 show quality working big rigs. After the national anthem, and truck parade the racing began with the first of two NASCAR Late Model main events.
As the green flag flew, the #97 of Dylan Garner pulled to the front of the field. A spirited top five battle ensued for the first half of the 30 lap race. At lap 16 the #22 of Derek Thorn, made an inside move on Garner to take the lead, stayed out front for the final 14 circuits and win race #1.
In the NASCAR Super Stock Race, Chris Dalton got back to his winning ways. The points leader, started 6th and worked his way past the field and finally by the #7 of Gene Fife to take the lead just after half way. Dalton then cruised to his 3rd victory of the year, extending his points lead.
The NASCAR Modified Series was like Déjà Vu, all over again. As Jim Coffey overcame involvement in an early race crash, work his way through the field, make a dramatic pass on younger brother Ed in the #9 car, and lead the final 16 laps to earn his record setting 4th win in a row.
The INEX Legends feature saw two teenagers battle it out for the race win. Colton Page in the #24p car lead early from the pole, but was pressured by the #29 of Brayden Rogers. With ten laps to go, Page had brake issues, and slide up the track going into turn #1. That’s all that Rogers needed to make the pass on the inside and scoot away to snag the victory.
The second NASCAR Late Model main event saw the same great competition with great racing up front. Lucas McNeil jumped out to the lead early and led the first 15 laps, before the #22 of Derek Thorn who started 7th made the pass for the top spot on lap 17 and led the remainder of the race to sweep the evenings twins.
In the Mini Dwarf Division, Stephen Bazen scored his second consecutive victory in the juniors and Adam Nohl doubled up winning his second in a row as well.
The Final Event of the night, The RV Race of Destruction didn’t disappoint! As 5 precision built racing motor homes, pulling trailer-less boats, attempted to be the last man standing or running in this case. Carnage ensued, and Jimmy Owens took home the trophy after Scott and Kyle Rice made contact flipping both RV’s onto their side! See the video on our FaceBook page.
