Bakersfield, CA – It’s the biggest open wheel weekend in track history, as Kern County Raceway proudly presents the Fifth Annual George Snider Classic Weekend, featuring dirt track action on Saturday, November 3rd and record setting pavement racing on Sunday, November 4th.
On Saturday night, November 3rd, the racing action will take place on the ‘KCRP Dirt Track’ featuring for the first time ever on the 1/3 mile clay oval, the Non-wing 360 Sprint Cars, plus the Western States Midgets, and Racesaver 305 Winged Sprint Cars. This full night of dirt track action will award a $2,000 bonus to any driver who can win two of the three main events that evening and $1000 to the driver with the best overall points total for the night if they compete in more than one division. Additional event details will be posted soon.
Then on Sunday afternoon, it’s the return of the fastest cars to ever compete on the KCRP Paved High-Banked Half-Mile, the Winged Sprint Cars of the national “King of the Wing” Series. “JoJo Helberg” holds the all-time track record at KCRP at 14.29 seconds for one lap. Bryan Warf of Meridian, Idaho is the defending race champion.
The weekend will honor open wheel racing legend George "Ziggy" Snider of Bakersfield, whose impressive career took him from the nation’s dirt tracks to 22 starts at “The Indy 500” driving for legendary car owner and longtime friend, A.J. Foyt.
“Now we have proudly grown the annual George Snider Classic into a two-day show featuring the types of racing both dirt and pavement that made Snider a legend in the sport,” stated Steve Hughes of Kern County Raceway. “It may be a toss-up between the winged sprint cars on the pavement, or the wingless sprint cars on the dirt track, which will fill your veins with more adrenalin during this great two days of racing.”
